Occupational Therapy

At Webster the OT works with special education students who have been identified by the IEP team to require OT support for student success. They level fine motor work to match the student’s emerging skills and may work with students to improve skilled hand use for the following: using classroom tools and manipulatives, scissors cutting, handwriting, assistive technology, self-help skills and independent living skills.

The OT also consults and/or collaborates with school staff and caregivers to provide fine motor, self-care and sensory motor interventions for students to be as independent as possible in the classroom, bathroom, lunchroom and at their locker.

Speech Therapy

Our speech therapists consult with the classroom teachers regularly to help create a stimulating speech and language environment.  Students’ communication IEP goals are supported throughout the day with special attention during activities such as cooking, snack, centers, small groups, large group, literacy,  community based instruction and field trips. Webster is committed to the best practices approach of serving students in natural settings to build their functional communication skills.

Augmentative/Alternative communication (AAC) is strongly supported throughout the program to provide students different ways to express themselves with peers and staff. Pictures, visual schedules, core vocabulary picture boards and voice output devices paired with basic manual signs are embedded into the daily curriculum at Webster Elementary.

We have two speech therapists at our school that support our program, both with extensive knowledge and experience working with a variety of students.
